Headbands

I love headbands.  No, scratch that. I luuuuuurve headbands in every way imaginable.    I have a lot of hair and headbands can sometimes make me feel as if my mane is manageable.

InStyle featured some of Blair's lovely headbands. . .

And I should include at least one non-bow option of B's.

Lauren Conrad also loves headbands.  This yellow one works really well with her cute shoes!

Reese always has TDF hair.  This is no exception.

And the still ever so chic headband look of Brigitte Bardot.

L. Erickson has wonderful headbands.  Their classic Trixie Bow style is one of my favorites and it comes in lots of colors.

Last but not least, this is the headband I am wearing today.

Do you love headbands?  What is your favorite hair accessory?

One last week!

I cannot believe that this upcoming weekend is Labor Day!  Although I know that the old white rule is no longer followed to a T, let's use it as an excuse to wear lots of white all week.

These ladies looked wonderful last night at the Emmys in their white gowns!

For some reason, the slit looks really high in this picture. . .

And of course, my favorite couple (I'm continuing to say couple, I can't imagine them not being together) in Summer White

And a cooler-weather option.

Happy Monday and last week of summer!

Sunday Night Emmys!

I am a sucker for any awards show that includes a red carpet.  Tonight's Emmy Awards are no exception.  I cracked open a bottle of one of my favorite kinds of sparkling--Cristalino (very similar to Cristal, hehe) and am almost done with a lovely dinner.

For dinner, I made Rosemary Ailoi with Grilled Portabella Mushrooms with grilled red onions on my favorite bread--Whole Foods' seeduction.

Hope everyone is having a lovely and relaxing Sunday evening!

On Wisconsin!

Although I am back to school in Ohio, I do miss where I went for undergrad--The University of Wisconsin.  As sorority recruitment starts, I get very nostalgic for the wonderful times I had.

These women went through "rush" at the University of Wisconsin in 1958.  Oh how times have changed!

I also fondly remember the many many times I sat on this beautiful terrace.

Cheers to the last "summer" weekend before Labor Day weekend and everyone who is going through recruitment!  Enjoy it!  ;)

First Day of School!

Yesterday was my first day back to school.  Although I don't go too crazy buying back-to-school clothes, I am excited for my big Lilly box to arrive.  Yesterday I wore. . .

One of my favorite summer dresses.  (Which got the compliment, "I love your people dress?" from a friend who wasn't quite sure what to call it.)

And a wardrobe staple, a J. Crew lightweight cardigan.  (I wore navy.)

With cute little sandals from Miss Trish for Target since I didn't have to walk too far.

Anyone else plan back to school outfits? ;)

Ooolala! Paris is burning. . .

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. . .

Can't.  Wait.  For.  This.

I was going to wait. . .

But I wanted to share that I am joining the Junior League!  Last night I went to a recruitment event at an adorable wine bar and got to meet a few other women interested in the league as well as the women who run the Provisional Program.  (I also will have to go back to the wine bar, as the appetizers and patio were divine.)

I also wanted to add a special thank you to Persians and Pulitzer, as I have wanted to join Junior League for some time now, but thought that it may be too difficult while I do my thesis this year.  She was right, there is a lot of flexibility for many chapters, and I think it'll be a great "break" from all my schoolwork.  I am so excited to start!

I know many of my favorite bloggers are in Junior League--are you in it? Is there any advice you'd want to share with someone new to the league?

The funniest of coincidences

Today I was invited to attend a panel discussion with my boss on a healthcare topic.  My boss is very well-respected in the community, and as part of her job, she goes to many many meetings weekly around the county.  Most of the time (well, actually almost never) I do not accompany her to these meetings.  Today was a little different, and I was able to attend.

The panel discussion was wonderful with three lovely very well-rounded speakers and I almost got emotional multiple times because the stories they told were so touching.  At one point one of the speakers was talking about his family life growing up in Florida.  He was joking about going with his family to look at fabrics because one of his very close family members worked for a little someone.  A little someone named LILLY PULITZER!!!!!!!!!!  I just about died.  It was especially perfect as I was the only one in the audience wearing Lilly.  (Realistically I was the only one wearing anything with color. ;))  I could hardly sit still and listen to the rest of the panel as I was so excited to ask him questions about it later!

He was wonderful to talk to and I tried not to be too embarrassing.  (Hello, lovely life story, but did you mention Lilly Pulitzer?!)  I would also like to send a huge appreciation into the universe for how wonderful he was with a babbling girl drooling over his life of unlimited Lilly.

Could you imagine the joys of working for the legend herself?  ;)  Hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy all the blogs on the Blog Hop this week!

You are beautiful!

This morning on the Today show, Operation Beautiful's founder, Caitlin Boyle talked about her project to increase women's self-esteem by leaving post-it notes in public places.

I love the idea of supporting women in this way, and will have to start reading her blog about this project.

My sorority also has a program that focuses on eliminating fat talk which is along the same lines.

I just can't write a post about self-esteem and body image without including my favorite Dove commercial.

Have a wonderful Thursday and remember you are beautiful today!  :)  What do you think about each of these programs?

Military-Style Jackets

As everyone begins to buy new clothes for the fall, military-style jackets cannot be ignored.  Everyone from J. Crew to Forever 21 has options for anyone looking to try out the trend.

Barbour is a classic brand that has been around forever, but I have seen more people over the past year or so wear it.  This Ladies Rose Wax Utility Jacket has the best lining.  J. Crew even carries the brand!  The classic styles are the Bedale and the Beaufort that can be found at Orvis, but they do carry more fitted styles as well.

Speaking of J. Crew...

They brought back an old favorite from last year.  The Downtown Field Jacket.

The Waxed Utility Jacket looks very similar to the Barbour above, but is much more affordable at $148.  It comes in black and dark elm.

Vince Cotton Utility Jacket can be found at Nordstrom, and the longer parka style would be cute over leggings.

To ensure that you don't lose your shape under these jackets, you can belt them like the MICHAEL by Michael Kors jacket, or make sure it is more fitted.

What do you think of this trend?  I have to admit, it was hard for me to like these options last year, but the more I see, the more I think that some of them could be fun ways to mix up my look.
