Kennedy Family

Yesterday morning I heard a fascinating story on the Kennedy family's support of the arts on NPR.  The story states, "Perhaps no president in American history celebrated the arts more visibly than John F. Kennedy. So it seems only natural that the performing-arts center that bears his name is staging a star-studded arts festival to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his inauguration."

Poet Laureate Robert Frost reading a poem at John F. Kennedy's inauguration.

"I look forward to an America which will reward achievement in the arts as we reward achievement in business and statecraft." -JFK

Cellist Pablo Casals at the White House in 1961.

Last Night Yo-Yo Ma played each of the pieces that legendary cellist Pablo Casals played at the White House in 1961 as part of the Kennedy Center celebration.  The full story about the 1961 performance can be read here.

Did you know about the Kennedy family's contributions to the arts?  Are you a patron of the arts yourself?

  3. Yes! I love hearing about the Kennedy family's commitment to the arts. Fashion, decor, and of course, all of the more classical artistic endeavors. Great reminder of a fab family!!
