The Drama Years

Yesterday on Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda (Hoda was out in case you were wondering), there was a fascinating story on The Drama Years, life for girls in middle school.  I do a lot of work with young girls and it can be heartbreaking to hear from many adolescent girls about self-esteem and pressures they face.

One important aspect of this story that is missing is that adult role models can really change the outlook and reinforce positive messages for young girls.  Make sure you hug a girl today, and tell her she's special and wonderful, as all of you are as well.

  2. I'm with you! I try to hug all my friends daughters (since I don't have one) and tell them how fabulous they are. I just saw something on the news of a similar tone I want to blog about. UGH mean girls and bullying!!!

  4. Being a young girl is a crazy thing, especially these days when it seems you have to grow up so fast. And then there's bullying like Beth said. We've got to pay more attention to kids now than ever. xx

  6. As a teacher, I have seen how a girl's self-esteem can control all aspects of her life. Thank you for blogging about this.
